A child has been left "gutted" after realising she missed out on the chance of winning £100,000 by eating a potentially prize-winning crisp.
Snack giant Walkers are currently running a competition asking people to find the best heart-shaped crisp in order to win the huge jackpot.
Twelve-year-old Maggie Brown was watching football with her parents and two friends on Sunday when the discovery was made.
After finding the 'golden potato' in a packet of Walkers Ready Salted bought at the bar, Maggie followed the instructions and shared a photo of the crisp to the company's social media accounts.
But hidden in the terms and conditions is the requirement to not only take a picture of the crisp but to also keep it safe, along with the packaging, to prove it belongs to you if shortlisted.
Her mum, Rachael Brown, said: "My husband and I were focused on the match when Maggie found the crisp.
"After she discovered it, she looked up what she had to do, took a picture then ate it and threw the packet away.
"Later, it dawned on us that we hadn't read the full terms and conditions.
"She was gutted and we wish we were paying more attention."
The crisps brand announced the competition at the beginning of February, and it is set to end on March 20, 2023, so crisps lovers still have time to hunt for that perfect heart.
The terms and conditions for the competition state: "Please retain all packaging, as this may be required for validation and in order for the winner to receive their prize.
"Keep your heart-shaped crisp and the packaging as we will require it to validate your claim.
"The heart-shaped crisp provided on entry must be the crisp that is produced at Shortlist Notification and Winner Notification. If not you will be disqualified."
Mrs Brown added: "We were tempted to rummage through the bin to try and find the packet at least. But it is a big bin."
The heart-shaped crisp judging criteria
All Walkers potato crisps excluding Walkers Baked, Walkers MAX and Walkers Sensations can be entered into the prize draw.
Nibbling around the edges is not allowed and it must resemble a classic symmetrical heart shape.
The criteria the crisp will be judged on are:
- How much of a point, as opposed to a curve, is there at the bottom of the Heart Shaped Crisp?
- How symmetrical are the two curves at the top of the Heart Shaped Crisp to each other?
- How arched are the two curves at the top of the Heart Shaped Crisp?
- How in line is the meeting point of the two curves at the top of the Heart Shaped Crisp to the bottom point of the heart-shaped crisp?
- How symmetrical are the two downward sloping sides of the Heart Shaped Crisp to each other?
- How straight are the two downward-sloping sides of the Heart Shaped Crisp?
