AN HISTORIC former Dales police station could be converted into holiday accommodation.
A planning application has been submitted to Richmondshire District Council to convert the building into five flats, with a mix of one and two bedrooms, for letting to visitors.
Buildings at the rear of the building would be knocked down as part of the plans, with an extension built at the back.

Vehicle access would be from the rear via Kelberdale Court, with the current archway at the front used for pedestrian access only.
According to a design statement submitted to the planning authority by Cellar Door Architecture for developers Johanica Limited, the existing building is of cut limestone wall construction with dressed stone window reveals, quoins and eaves cornicing.
The plans state: "The windows are timber sliding sash in the original historical configuration. The rear of the building is much more plainly constructed.
"The building has been used for more than 100 years as a police station and has very simple interiors, with no historical details to speak of.
"The building is in a moderate state of repair but will require a full refurbishment and upgrade to enable a residential use.
"Stone reclaimed from demolition on site will be used to construct the ground floor base of the extension.
"The first floor and roof are clad in a dark grey recycled composite cladding. The proposed extension has been designed in contemporary way using a building form and materials sympathetic to its setting.

"The design objective has been to create a building that is of its time and appropriate to its future use but which still accords with its setting."
The demolition of the existing brick garage and rear wall has allowed the creation of improved amenity space.
The ground floor is to be comprised of three, one bedroom apartments, and the first floor is to be comprised of two, two bedroom apartments.
