A new airline is set to land at Newcastle airport next summer after it announced new flights to a popular European holiday destination.
Flagship Greek airline AEGEAN has announced new flights direct to Athens from Newcastle Airport taking off in Summer 2023.
The award-winning airline will fly twice a week from Newcastle, every Wednesday and Sunday, from mid-June to mid-September.

Newcastle Airport says Greece remains one of the most popular destinations for North East holidaymakers.
Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport said: “We are delighted to be announcing Greece’s flagship carrier, AEGEAN, who will offer even more choice to the region by offering direct services to Athens with onwards connections within Greece and across Europe and the Middle-East.
“Greece is one of the North East’s most popular holiday destinations and there is huge demand for direct services to Athens. This investment demonstrates great confidence in the North East’s largest airport and the region and we look forward to welcoming AEGEAN in 2023.”

AEGEAN was named Best Regional Airline in Europe for 11 years running at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Tickets are on sale now with prices ranging from £51 one-way for Economy.
The Greek carrier also offers passengers the opportunity to upgrade to Business Class on certain flights.
It becomes the latest airline to announce flights from Newcastle Airport for summer 2023.
In September Turkish airline SunExpress announced it will flight three times a week to Antalya, Greece throughout Summer 2023.
On Thursday (December 1) Emirates will also return to offering a daily service to Dubai from Newcastle International Airport for the first time since the pandemic.
