A GP vaccination hub is urging people who haven't yet had a Covid vaccination, or are overdue their second dose, to 'drop-in' for a jab.

Holgate and Greater Middlesbrough Primary Care Network (PCN) is to open a week-long 'walk-in' clinic for people aged over 40, who have not-yet taken up the offer of a first vaccination or are due their second jab.

No appointment is required and anyone over 40 who lives or works in Middlesbrough, will be able to attend the walk-in vaccination sessions from Monday, June 21 to Friday, June 25 1pm – 5pm and Saturday, June 26 from 9am – 1pm at: Linthorpe Surgery, North Ormesby, North Ormesby Health Village, 1 Trinity Mews, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough.

Dr Peter Heywood, Clinical Director Holgate PCN said: "We are creating a walk-in vaccination clinic to make it easier for people to just turn up and get their jab.

"If anyone over 40 hasn't got around to booking their first vaccine appointment yet, this is the perfect opportunity for them to start to get protected.

"For anyone that has had their first jab and are now due their second, it is vitally important that they get both doses of the vaccine.

"We know there are more than 12,0000 people over 40 in Middlesbrough who are still unprotected, with no vaccination or having had only one vaccine - this leaves them at greater risk of getting seriously ill due to coronavirus."

"It is absolutely crucial that they get maximum protection as soon as possible, especially with the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus circulating across the country."

Over 70,000 vaccines have been administered by practices in Middlesbrough since the roll-out began.

Both first jabs and second jabs, for over 40s, will be offered at the walk-in clinic.

Dr Janet Walker, chief officer NHS Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) welcomed news of the new walk-in clinic.

"Our vaccination teams across Tees Valley have already delivered more than 734,345 Covid-19 vaccinations from our GP led vaccination clinics, community pharmacies, hospital hubs, the Melissa mobile vaccination bus and the Riverside and Darlington Arena large vaccination hubs.

"This walk-in clinic approach is yet another example of our health teams making a real difference to local people and ensuring that wherever you live in Tees Valley you can get a vaccination."
