TRADITIONAL Easter events have been taking part at a famous North-East landmark.
Crowds of families gathered at Penshaw Monument on Good Friday for an annual egg-rolling event.
Nearby, at Amphitheatre at Herrington Country Park, a range of activities had been organised as part of Penshaw Bowl.
An egg-rolling competition was opened by Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Alan Emerson.
Competitors were asked to come along with their pre-decorated egg, clearly marked with the child’s name and age and the event
Coun Emerson said: “I have been looking forward to welcoming children from all over the city to enjoy a day jam packed with Easter fun. Penshaw Bowl combines traditional celebrations with fun activities offering something for all ages.”
There was also an activity marquee with free Easter-themed fun including arts and crafts and visits from some special Easter characters.
For families feeling a little more energetic the Active Sunderland team was there to encourage visitors to get involved with a range of free sporting activities.
Sainsbury’s, this year’s official event sponsor, provided chocolate prizes, including a small treat for every child that took part.
