A WOMAN has died after a head-on collision near Darlington.
The accident happened around 10pm on Saturday on the A167, Croft Road which runs southbound from the Blands Corner roundabout towards Hurworth on Tees.
"The accident involved a white coloured Mercedes C220 motor car and a white coloured Citroen Berlingo van," said a spokesman for Durham Police.
"The Mercedes C220 has been travelling north from the direction of Hurworth towards the roundabout at Blands Corner, whilst the Citroen has been travelling south on this road.
"The two vehicles have collided head on. The cause of the collision are presently being investigated.
"The front seat passenger in the Citroen Berlingo van, a female from the Darlington area was taken from the scene by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital but sadly died as a result of her injuries."
The driver of the Citroen, a man from the Darlington area, sustained serious injuries. He is being treated for a dislocated hip, a broken femur and broken ribs and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
