A CYCLIST has hit out at police after they told her they would not investigate a crash in which she was knocked off her bike.
Emma Kennedy, from York, was cycling in Fawcett Street in the city last Thursday when she claims a car pulled out of Kent Street and hit the side of her bike.
Mrs Kennedy landed in the road. She did not suffer any injuries apart from bruising.
She said she called the police only to be told there was nothing they could do.
She said: “North Yorkshire Police wouldn’t report this incident because it would have to satisfy one of three conditions.
“Paramedics would have to attend, the driver had to leave the scene or the road would have to be blocked, but because none of these were the case, the police didn’t have to do anything.
“I have an issue with that, especially because I’m a cyclist and I ended up on the ground with my pannier behind me.
“My problem is this incident has no status in the eyes of the police , however, if a driver is caught speeding on camera they are issued with points or told to go on a course.
“In this case where it could have been a really serious injury where the person admitted to me not seeing me, nothing is being done.”
North Yorkshire Police looked into the matter and said the call handler made an error and Mrs Kennedy would be contacted.
He added: “We have reviewed our response to this call, and unfortunately on this occasion it appears that the caller was given incorrect information.
“We have contacted the caller, apologised for the error and arranged to see her in person on September 13 so we can ensure the incident is investigated fully.”
Anyone who saw the crash and has information can phone police on 101 and quote reference number NYP-10092016-0130.
