A WOMAN has denied defrauding a great grandmother of £7,200 in a series of withdrawals from her bank account.
Anneka Dawn Hawkes is alleged to have used the 84-year-old woman’s bank cards to make purchases and cash withdrawals over a nine-month period in 2014.
The 31-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge of fraud by false representation was put to her at today’s (Monday February 15) plea and trial preparation hearing at Durham Crown Court.
A single count, in covers a series of alleged withdrawals, said to have taken place between April 1 and December 31, in 2014.
The case was adjourned for a trial of up to three days to take place at the court in five months’ time.
Judge Christopher Prince bailed the defendant, of Oxclose Crescent, Spennymoor, to return for the start of the trial, on Monday July 18.
