A VILLAGE post office will open seven days a week when it reopens after refurbishment next month.
A new Post Office local service will be launched at High Street, Howden-le-Wear, near Crook, at 1pm on Friday, May 1.
The Post Office service, ran from a terminal alongside the retail till, will be available during the store’s opening hours on Monday to Saturday, 6am to 8pm, and Sunday, 6am to 7pm.
The opening times are an increase of 56 hours a week.
Services will include mail, home shopping returns and some banking and customers will be able to pay bills, pre-order foreign money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
Howden-le-Wear Post Office will shut at 5.30pm on Thursday, April 16 for refurbishment to take place.
Customers are asked to use Crook Post Office, on New Road, or Willington Post Office, on High Street, during the closure.
Michael Brennan, area manager, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”
