A VILLAGE post office will shut for just over a week while it undergoes refurbishment.
Chilton post office, on Durham Road, will have to close from noon tomorrow (Thursday, September 25) until 1pm on Tuesday, October 7.
The new look shop, part of a Government programme to modernise the network, will provide a range of services such as postage, banking, benefits and travel money at a combination counter where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the till.
The store will be open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, and Saturday, 9am to 12.30pm, which is an extension to its opening hours of nine and half hours a week.
During the closure Post Office services can be accessed at West End Post Office on Market Street, Ferryhill, and Woodham Post Office on St Elizabeth Close, Newton Aycliffe.
Area manager Anne Clark said: “We know how important Post Office services are to residents and we are confident that this vibrant new style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.”
