A FORMER postmaster has reopened his old Post Office as an art studio and gift shop.
The Post Office in West Auckland, closed in October last year. But its last postmaster Martin Connolly has now breathed new life into the building by reopening it as a place to exhibit his photographs, the stained glass art of his daughter Angela Newton, and a shop selling shabby chic gifts.
He said: “I believe that local shopping is important and the village has very few retail outlets.
“The rise of large supermarkets and retail parks are killing local town and village main streets, so this is an attempt to give local people a choice.
“We also hope that many folk from around the area will come and visit us.
“I am sure they will find value and quality in the new shop and that they will give it their support.”
Mr Connolly is also selling copies of his latest book about West Auckland’s team of miners who won the first World Cup from the shop.
The shop, Artview Studio, also sells refurbished furniture.
The Artview Studio is open from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
