A FIRE burning for several days is under control at a wood recycling plant near Redcar.
A smouldering stack of wood at UK Wood Recycling on Monday took hold due to the strong winds before it could be extinguished.
It is being controlled by the emergency fire service from SembCorp Utilities, which owns the Wilton site, with support from Cleveland Fire Brigade.
Vicki Hughes, Group Business Development Director for UK Wood Recycling, said as much unaffected wood as possible was being moved to safe storage areas away from the site.
"We apologise to any local residents who are being affected by smoke or ash in the vicinity of UK Wood Recycling,” she said.
"The fire is under control and we have been advised by the fire specialists to let it burn itself out. There will be a full investigation into the fire once it is out,” she added.
