POLICE have released new CCTV footage in a renewed appeal to trace a man wanted in connection with a sneak-in burglary at an elderly man’s home in a Swaledale village.
Last month detectives issued images of the man entering the victim’s house on September 4, when it is believed cash was stolen from the victim’s wallet.
The same man has been seen on camera again, entering the victim’s home on November 12. On that occasion he was disturbed by a neighbour and it’s believed that nothing was stolen.
Officers have issued further CCTV of the incident, which can be viewed on YouTube, which shows the man wearing a distinctive hat with ear flaps.
Detective Constable Karl Middlemiss said: “This is an audacious and cowardly crime, targeting an elderly and vulnerable person in their own home.
“We urge members of the public to contact us as a matter of urgency if they can help identify the suspect in the images. The man is seen entering the victim’s home, followed by a vigilant neighbour who challenged his presence in the house.
"It’s vital that anyone who recognises him from the footage gets in touch. I also want to urge people to lock their doors even when they are at home to help deter this type of crime.
"If you have elderly or vulnerable relatives, neighbours or friends, please encourage them to lock their doors and keep an eye out for any suspicious callers or vehicles at their home.”
Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Northallerton CID, or email karl.middlemiss@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
Alternatively pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111 quoting incident number 12130127701.
