A WOMAN who blamed her mother for a horrific pub glassing which could have blinded her victim walked free from court today (Friday).
Melissa Cormack told "lie after lie after lie" during a trial in which she was found guilty of wounding - yet was still spared jail.
A judge at Teesside Crown Court said prison would have too great an impact on her two children and her own fragile mental health.
Scarred victim Daniella Carney told in a statement how the attack in the Dubliners in Stockton last year has changed her life.
The doctors' receptionist revealed how her young son was afraid to go near her for days after she suffered the grisly injuries.
"I now avoid going out in public without make-up and avoid any photographs, which is a real shame. I feel lucky to have my sight.
"I was uneasy about returning to work," said Miss Carney. "I was forever being asked questions about what had happened to my face."
Prosecutor Rod Hunt said the row between the two women was "almost juvenile" but ended with the victim suffering a number of cuts.
The jury in last month's trial heard how Cormack, of Woodford Walk, Thornaby, must have caused the injuries inside the pub.
She claimed, however, and still maintains that her mother, Karen Mohun (CORR), waded into a fight outside with a glass in her hand.
Cormack was convicted of unlawful wounding, and yesterday received an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, with supervision.
The judge, Recorder Bob Spragg, also imposed a three-month curfew between 9pm and 6am and ordered her to pay £500 compensation.
Andrew Turton, mitigating, had earlier asked for "mercy" and said: "It is an incident she would rather forget for a number of reasons.
"She is absolutely desperate about the ultimate conclusion Your Honour could arrive at in terms of depriving her of her liberty.
"She gives a clear indication of her willingness to engage in whatever rehabilitation mechanism that is necessary to deal with the case in a way which is non-custodial."
Mr Recorder Spragg told Cormack, who is pregnant with her third child: "The photographs show the extent of the very unpleasant injuries.
"The most significant aspect is you have two young children and clearly they have done nothing wrong."
