A NEW village post office will open later this month (Tuesday, May 14).
The current Pittington Post Office, at 9 Graham Terrace, High Pittington, near Durham, will close at 5.30pm on Monday, May 13.
The new facility, in The Village Market, at 1 Jubilee House, will open the following day.
It will be one of the Post Office’s new-style ‘local’ branches, open from 6am to 8.30pm from Monday to Saturday and 6am to 4.30pm on Sundays.
Sue Richardson, the Post Office’s regional network manager for Scotland and Northern England, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Pittington and we received feedback in support of the move as it will help support the viability of the village shop.
“I would like to assure customers that we will work with the new operator to ensure an appropriate level of privacy is provided at the retail till.
“I am confident that this new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
