STUDENTS have been exploring the world outside of the traditional classroom as part of an initiative designed to enrich their lives.
Youngsters at Darlington School of Mathematics and Science went off timetable for an annual enrichment day to take part in a range of activities.
Some went on trips to the Baltic in Gateshead, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield, and London, while others stayed at school to learn about fair trade, global warming, science and poetry.
Others joined an art workshop to make sculptures, while some took part in engineering projects to build bridges, environmental homes of the future and a cathedral.
Assistant headteacher Caroline Kelly, who organised the event, said: “Days like these are the ones students really remember and can be pivotal in influencing their lives. They hone individual skills and enhance team building and self-confidence.
“Students were offered the chance to experience an array of activities on rotation which saw them gaining different skills, meeting other teachers and making new friends of all ages.”
