AN UNEMPLOYED father took his own life after his marriage broke down, a coroner ruled today (November 20).
An inquest was told Christopher Buckley, 54, of Cartington Road, Newton Hall, Durham City, was found dead in his living room, after neighbours were alerted by a barking dog on April 16.
According to evidence, Mr Buckley had been treated for depression and was experiencing marital problems.
He had threatened to take his own life if his wife left him – and days before he died there had been a separation, the Crook inquest was told.
A toxicological report revealed Mr Buckley died of an overdose of prescription pills.
Deputy assistant coroner for County Durham and Darlington Oliver Longstaff said, although Mr Buckley had not left a note, it was clear he had intended to take his own life.
