Hurricane Doña heads for Mickleton
TEESDALE’S top Rnb club forecasts a sensational storm of song and music on Saturday (April 23). It marks the return appearance of “Hurricane Doña”, America’s goddess of soul and boogie, who begins a UK and European tour this month.
Doña Oxford’s 25-date tour includes only three England venues this month and the Mickleton Village Hall venue is one where the audience will have a performance to remember.
The tour, with her British band, follows on the heels of recent on-the-road success with Grammy-winning guitarist Albert Lee, whose favourite venues include the Mickleton RnB Club. Albert describes Doña as “such a great performer”. Doña has jammed with Keith Richards and recorded with the likes of Van Morrison and Roger Daltrey.
Organiser Sue Brown says: “She is high energy but has an amazing range of song styles. Her piano skills are astonishing. For a taster check Doña on YouTube where her 'boogie-woogie' has already had more than one million views. I defy anyone not to be on their feet for this.”
Support act is North East blues musicians The Andy Power Band. “They have made an impact on the blues scene with a unique blend of funk/rock driven original blues. Their first album will be released this year and will be all original blues tracks,” says Sue
* Doors open at the Village Hall at 8pm. Tickets £18 in advance, £20 on the door. Full bar and pie and peas suppers at £2. Information/tickets from Sue at 01833-640854 or mickletonrnb@hotmail.com
