A CONSTRUCTION firm, which makes buildings for the oil and gas industry, has secured a contract to supply blast resistant products for a £2.5bn offshore energy project.
Portastor, in York, is making three substations, control rooms and electrical systems for the Laggan-Tormore gas plant scheme, in the Shetland Islands.
The buildings, each weighing about 100 tonnes, will house equipment controlling monitor processes for the plant, and protect them from blasts and fire.
Portastor is part of the Shepherd Group that includes Shepherd Construction, which has offices in Darlington.
Todd Altman, Portastor chief executive, said: “As part of the Shepherd Group, we have invested significant resources into sector-leading solutions.
“Tapping into the nation’s own natural resources is crucial to reduce the growing reliance on foreign oil and gas, and we’re proud to be supporting the regional economy while playing a part in securing the ongoing production of oil and gas in the UK.”
